The Journey Prize is awarded every year by Writers’ Trust of Canada and McClelland & Stewart to an outstanding Canadian short story. This year I got to read the finalists when I proofread The Journey Prize Stories 27. It reminded me that I need to read more short stories. They’re so varied and entertaining and innovative, and reading this collection is a great way to meet authors who will become household names in future. The winner, by Deirdre Dore, was “The Wise Baby,” a story that made me cry a little.
